Google dislikes affiliate programs and paid advertising

It is a well known fact that Google really dislikes advertising on websites and this means any type of paid advertising including affiliate programs. Does this mean you cannot be successful with an affiliate website or selling advertising?

The truth is that Google does not like this because they want themselves (Google) to be the affiliate program or advertising program. It is no secret that 90% of Googles revenue comes from Google Adwords & AdSense. However this does not mean a website cannot be succesful running and affiliate program if it is done properly. Here are some key things website owners can do to help affiliate websites and advertising websites to succeed in google.

1. No Follow all outbound paid advertising links By no following our links we adhere to Googles guidelines. This still helps the advertiser by passing a link but does not pass Google Pagerank juice.

2. No Follow affiliate links By no following affiliatelinks we mask the affiliate link keeping the pr value on our own websites and not passing it on. I will add that some people believe this does not matter. My opinion is that it can’t hurt.

3. Build plenty of content Around Affiliate links This is very important. Keep in mind there are a bunch of other affiliates using the same affiliate link you are. You need to stand out from the crowd. Surround your affiliate link with plenty of content about the product. This builds value in the link and makes people want to click on it.

4. Have pages that do not have affiliate linksAnother important thing to do is have information pages that do notm contain affiliate links, Use these pages to promote your pages that do have the affiliate links.

5. Make compelling pages You want your visitors to come back time and time again therefore make your site look great and definitely not spammy. The last thing a potential buyer wants to do is go to a page that is full of banners and ads. You need to build value in your site in order to succeed with affiliate marketing.

6. Build links, Write articles and blog about your pages. Nothing new here. Do the same type of SEO you would normally do for any site. Find ways to gain links naturally, write articles and press releases and gain quality links.

The bottom line is that affiliate sites as well as advertising sites can be succesful as long as you follow a few steps to ensure you are meeting Google’s guidelines. So relax and continue to build your affiliate marketing programs.

I agree. Google wants domination when it comes to having the hold on online advertising. I think the best blend for webmasters is to use a combination of ads and adsense to give it a variety. Ads placed nicely and that aren’t overwhelming often perform fairly well.
