Many people ask the question “can I over optimize my site for google and is there a such thing as to many no follow tags?’
The answer is best explained in the video from Matt Cutts below.
As you will see in the video there is no such thing as to many no follow tags in Googles eyes. NO follow tags are a safe bet if you are wavering rather to use them or not.
Over optimization on the other hand can effect a lot of things. The number one thing it can effect is your users. The last thing you want to do is give your users the impression your site is spammy, low class or just plain junk. Even if you get a ton of visitors the chances of them converting is slim to none, therefore your site is deemed useless.
The best thing to do is to mix up your keywords with compelling content that grabs the users attention. Doing this will keep your visitors happy and potentially gain you some natural links that are very valuable.
Remember build your site for your users and not the search engines. Sure back in the day prior to the Florida update in November of 2003 the best way to get ranking was to do keyword stuffing and other black hat SEO. These practices are in the past and no longer work. When building a site you need to think long term and build a reputation.
